We were introduced to this hidden gem in Rockwell, NC when our niece was an intern there. Tiger World is a small animal rescue with lions, tigers, bears, birds, jaguars, ligers, reptiles and much more.
In 2007, Lea Jaunakais had the idea for Tiger World. Tiger World opened to the public on July 1, 2009 with just a few species of big cats and primates. They have now expanded to over 50 species, including 5 different species of tigers, 3 species of lions, and 2 species of leopards. They also have kangaroos, wallabys, kookaburras, reptiles, monkeys, and wolves. Tiger World reaches thousands of visitors each year. They offer Education activities to help guests understand these magnificent creatures while promoting conservation and preservation for our wildlife. And they promote the protection & safety of our endangered animals.
They offer educational programs that can help you get to know these beautiful creatures better. When we visited in March 2022, we were able to participate in a tiger feeding for a small additional fee. While feeding the tiger safely, the staff member explained to the crowd why tigers are endangered, their habitats in the wild, the characteristics and so much more.
One of their most noted residents is Michael the Timbavati White Lion. He joined Tiger World in 2015 at just 3 years of age. Several of Michael’s offspring live at Tiger World as well, waiting to do their part in the conservation of the species.
Plan a visit to Tiger World and you will not be disappointed.
